David Bowie has always been the ultimate symbol of the eccentric, unattainable rockstar who is so bad for you but so damn good. Whether it’s Ziggy Stardust, the Thin White Duke or the ‘Blind Prophet’ of his latest album ‘★’ (Blackstar), Bowie captures your attention completely and sends you on a trip LSD would be jealous of.
Even at the cusp of 69 years old, his energy seems unlimited and the reinvention of his own persona through each album is eternal and beautifully portrayed in ‘Lazarus’.
Super creepy and a worthy follow up to the title track’s video, ‘Lazarus’ is slow, hypnotizing and has a strong jazz presence which was a pleasant surprise. Director of the video Johan Renck feels he’s reached the pinnacle of his career, having made a short film with Bowie for ‘★’. “One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice. Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound… I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.” he stated.
‘★’ release tomorrow, 8th January 2016, Bowie’s 69th birthday.
